Do we rent the cubby or buy the cubby?
The dorm bed cubbies are for rent! This allows:
- Us to include deliver and pick up from UNCW! The cubbies are only 6” thin and not heavy, but they are 71” tall and 80.5” long, which makes transporting them tricky. We transport them in box trucks/moving trucks (the cubby does not fit in most vehicles/pick up trucks).
- Us to keep the price lower.
- YOU to not worry about what to do with the cubby at the end of the year, how to move it, where to store it, etc.
Is shipping an available option?
Can I charge items in the cubby?
The cubby comes with two cutouts that have covers to allow access to charging cables. Depending on your charging needs, you might only utilize one of these cut outs.
Does a charging station fit in that cutout?
Yes, here is a picture of the charging station the students used last year along with the link from Amazon.
Can I reserve a cubby without knowing my dorm assignment?
Yes, select "TBD" when ordering. See the next question for providing us with this information.
How do I update my dorm assignment after I've placed my order?
As soon as you receive it, email us at hello@dormwise.com with your dorm assignment (please add the student’s Name, Building and Room #). Next, email us when you confirm your move-in day and time.
When will my cubby be delivered?
Cubbies are delivered to UNCW on move-in day.
What happens at the end of the academic year?
We handle the pick-up of your cubby directly from your dorm.
What colors are available?
White and Gray (Sherwin Williams “Repose Gray”)
What are the dimensions of the cubby?
The dimensions are: 80" wide, 71" high, shelves are 12" high and 6" deep. The top ledge is 80 1/2" x 6 1/2".
How high can I loft my bed with the cubby?
UNCW dressers under beds are typically 29”-30” tall. The cubby accommodates lofting heights from just above the dresser to approximately 12” above it (about four lofting positions). If you plan to loft your bed higher, select the cubby extenders option at checkout.
What is the cubby extender option?
For those who would like to loft their beds on the top few lofting positions so they can place a chair, TV, etc., under their bed, you will want to select the cubby extender option to raise the cubby 16”.
What if I decide after move-in that I would like to purchase the cubby extender to loft my bed high to create a sitting area underneath?
Go to the website and complete the rental order for the cubby extender, check out, and then send us an email letting us know. We will then coordinate delivery.
Is any assembly required?
No assembly is required; it is simply placed in between the wall and your bed. Your cubby arrives ready for immediate use. The cubby does not attach to the wall; it stands independently between the bed and the wall.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit cards.
How does a Dorm Wise cubby help organize my dorm space?
The cubby provides convenient bedside storage and acts as a charging station, helping you keep essentials organized and easily accessible from your lofted bed.
Can parents order a cubby for their student?
Yes, parents can easily order online to ensure their student has convenient storage from day one.
Can I personalize my Dorm Wise cubby?
Absolutely! Students are encouraged to personalize their cubby to reflect their unique style and make their dorm feel more like home by placing pictures, books, and other personal items in their cubby! Please do not repaint or place stickers/wallpaper on the cubby though, thank you!
What if I need support or have questions after placing my order?

What happens if I rent a cubby and I am assigned a non-standard room where my bed does not have a wall for the cubby to go against?
On occasion, some specialty rooms, such as study rooms, may be used as student dorm rooms. If this occurs and the cubby does not work in the room, you may return it for a full refund.
